Put Jesus First!

Have you ever had someone tell you to put "Jesus First"? My guess is that you have probably not heard someone say this very often, if ever. The reason for this is that most people put Jesus pretty low on their lists of priorities.

And how about you? Where is Jesus on your priority list?

Dr. James Dobson often uses the phrase, "Focus on the Family". Nevertheless, Jesus said that He must be first in your life -- not your family. Jesus said:

"He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me." (Matthew 10:37)

"If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple." (Luke 14:26)

If you place your family before Jesus, then this means that you have committed a sin against God. Jesus himself said that you are not worthy of Him if you commit the sin of putting your family before Jesus.

Of course, it is not wrong for you to love your family. It is, however, a great sin for you to love your family more than you love Jesus Christ. The "hate" spoken of here in the above Bible verse is to be in comparison to your love for Jesus. In other words, Jesus meant that your love for Him should be so much greater than your love for your family.

Do you really love Jesus? The Bible says:

"If any man love not the Lord Jesus Christ, let him be Anathema Maran-atha." (1 Corinthians 16:22)

This means that you are under the curse of God the Father if you do not love His Son, Jesus Christ. Do you also love God the Father?

"And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment." (Mark 12:30)

"Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him." (I John 2:15)

The commandment that you love God is the greatest commandment in all of the Bible. Therefore, if you do not love God the Father and His Son Jesus, the reason for this lack of love is that you are still "lost" in your sins. "Jesus First" is not the cry of your heart because your heart is still filled with sin and rebellion against God. You are still going down the road that leads to Hell.

Despite your wicked sin, God still loves you and sent His Son Jesus to die for you, so that you will not have to go to Hell when you die:

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." (John 3:16)

Whatever you love more than Jesus is a sin. Give up your sin. Trust Jesus and He will save you from your sin. Jesus is up in Heaven right now, sitting at the right hand of God the Father, ready to forgive your sin if you will trust Him to do so.

If you will not trust Jesus, it is because you love the darkness of sin rather than the light of Christ. If you refuse to trust Jesus, Hell will be the just reward given to you by God for your sin:

"For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved." (John 3:20)

"He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him." (John 3:36)

If you trust Jesus, He will save you from your sins:

"All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out." (John 6:37)

Trust Jesus. Then put "Jesus First" by finding a good Fundamentalist Baptist Church to attend. Doing this will help you to grow as a Christian in a world rushing back toward The Great Roman Catholic Whore, the Antichrist, Satan, Sin and eventually -- Hell.
